It’s now time to brush away the cobwebs and start thinking about spring.
Bulbs planted in the winter will start to appear as temperatures increase, so it’s a good idea to prune winter flowering shrubs and cut back deciduous grasses, so that you can appreciate the spring colour coming through.
It’s also a good time to prune shrubs such as wisteria and Cornus.
Think about planting schemes for the spring and sow seeds indoors to give them a head start.
Tidy boarders, weed and mulch with compost,
Weeds will start to grow again as the weather warms up nearer to spring, so deal with them early, before they go to seed and get out of hand.
As you weed, tidy boarders and mulch with compost.
Aerate your lawns using a garden fork, or for larger areas, you could hire an aerator, then re seed any patchy areas, and give a spring lawn feed to keep your grass lush and green.
